Popular UK test centres make star comeback

Residents of Warrington and Bury are celebrating the news that their local practical test centres will reopen, despite being closed by respective councils as long ago as 2008.

With Bury’s population topping 60,000 and Warrington boasting an impressive 200,000 residents, it’s no surprise that the demand for a local driving test service has been a key factor in the councils’ decision to reinstate both centres. read more »

OFT Investigates UK Driving Test Booking Fee Deception

When it comes to booking your theory test and practical driving test, there are a million and one websites that offer a booking service. Many are government-accredited and link directly to the Direct Gov website, which does not require an additional fee for completing the booking.

However, many websites are offering the booking service for an extra fee, a practice which is not currently illegal but which many consider to be underhand and unfair.
The Office of Fair Trading has today announced its intention to investigate these websites in an attempt to prevent learner drivers from unwittingly paying more than they need to. read more »

Driving Tests at a Leisure Centre Near You!

A new government initiative has the DSA offering driving tests from a variety of new, and perhaps unusual, locations.

The centres, which will be based in leisure centres, council buildings and even hotels, are aimed at providing a local service where the demand is great enough to justify a centre.

The scheme, which is currently being trialled in Wiltshire, Ayrshire, Dumbarton, Warrington and Wales, hopes to give local residents a more convenient location for their practical tests. It also saves on the time and cost involved in building bespoke test centres, relying instead on existing locations. read more »

Practical Test – Latest Figures Show Fail Rate at 46.2%

Practical test fail rate figures released from the Department for Transport suggest that the national average for first time pass rates for your practical driving test are 46.2%, this amounts in real figures to 336,352 out of 728,438 tests taken.  With 9 out of the bottom 10 being from either London or Yorkshire! read more »

Cheap Driving Lessons

According to the AA, the average cost of a driving lesson is £24, which isn’t especially a cheap way of learning to drive. This, of course, is based on a qualified “Approved Driving Instructor” who holds the Green Badge rather than the Pink Badge which is what trainee driving instructors hold whilst they are undergoing training towards their Green Badge. read more »
